Gaining administrator access to folders and registry vista

Optional : If you took ownership of a folder and also want to take ownership of the files and subfolders included in that folder as well, then in the Security Settings window check the " Replace all existing inheritable permissions on all descendants with inheritable permissions from this object " option. This handy tool can give you ownership and full access to a file or folder of your selection, with the click of a button.

Furthermore, it can revert ownership and permissions to those items, again with just a single click. First, download from here the archive that includes TakeOwnershipEx. Extract it afterwards, and then run the included setup package.

After the installation of the program is completed, run it. You will see two buttons on its window: Take Ownership and Restore Ownership. Select Take Ownership.

From the dialog that opens, select the file or folder that you want to take ownership of and gain full access to, then click OK. A message will appear, informing you that ownership and rights are restored to the original account.

Here is what you will have to do to hide yourself from login screens as well as from control panel. Thats it now you are invisible but still admin of the system. Live as admin forever and keep screwing the real admin forever. After making the hidden account u will have to login through the 2nd step only. Thats it!!! NOTE: This is a sureshot way to gain admin, if u r a lamer or a newbie then please do some googling.

I have written almost every detail. What I have described here is a clean and neat process. Tried it several times on my system with no problem what so ever. And also I guess in my views only lines of. Pingback: Huge windows vulnerability. Its quite surprising that a guest will have write permissions to the System32 folder and that too to overwrite an already existent command because the paste function is invoked with guest privileges.

I have the snapshots above which I have copied from the trackback link to this blog post. Hack your way to security. At any rate I find Linux usable but the think I miss most is the software aisle. I must confess both sucks, but still makes day to day life easy. Plus all my web servers are linux, hence I do enjoy linux too….. Can anyone tell me how to do it. Thats in the system32 folder for all the windows version as far as I know. Put the above in your browser and it will prompt you for saving the same.

Ah… Yes, I use this exploitation to play with my computer and once a computer in the university lab. If you have priviledges to change System32 to being writeable, you already have admin access so wtf is the point of this? Cool man…really cool… it worked when at home… But in office system32 is not writable… u got anythin to overcome that???? First of all thanks a lot sree for the comments, that will satisfy a few of the above commentors. However I do agree that in office its unlikely that you will get the system32 writable but then use this trick to hack you friends computer if not the office one.

This is a neat trick, but of course, you have to have the modify attribute set in the group that your login is assigned to. Is there any way to make system32 files writeable from windows XP guest account?

I used this technique generally on my friends computer where I am logged in already as admin. Presumably you could also add users from here but the less you use this account the better! Please help me. I have the same problem. The message what I get says: Cannot copy sethc. Abhinav yaar can u plz share how u got this webpage…. I tried to do all what you gave me but the sethc. And what for such complexities, it is better to reinstall windows, to make all customisations and all.

Best way to fix it in mass is removed old GPO create a new one and enforce it. It is in the GPO for folder redirection Admins don't need access to user documents as far as I'm concerned.

If you ever REALLY need access, you can give yourself ownership, add the user with full permissions so they can see their stuff while you do whatever it is you need to do , then when you're done give ownership back to them. If you want others to be able to see it like it was any other folder based on permissions obviously , all you have to do is uncheck that box for everyone and you can have administrators go in and do what they need to at any time.

We simply have a security compliance section that doesn't allow for that. We only go in on an as-needed basis with user permission. This is problematic in itself, and a questionable practice.

Backups are another issue; set those up. If you really do need someone to see those files, Domain Admin only. Otherwise, you can have a junior Admin reading the CEO's correspondence. Is this Enterprise or SMB? Enterprise is a little more tricky for various reasons, but its fairly easy in an SMB environment.

Create user folder on the server, give user and admin access. Create My Documents folder inside of share. Map user drive on local computer. Putting a My Documents folder inside of the user share instead of mapping directly to the root of the share prevents the issue Eric M referenced. There are many environments where admin not only should but NEED access to user data. For instance I spent 4 years working at a county correctional facility. This setup has worked flawlessly since at least SBS HIPPA regulations are slowly cracking down on this, so be aware folks.

I won't access a home drive until I have directive in writing or e-mail from their supervisor or HR. Most common reason to need this is for when users quit, get fired, etc. One company I was with didn't allow administrator access to home drives, but had a specific auditing account for doing such. Pluses and minuses for this method. In any case, I don't like admins having this ability by default. I have 2 nephews who went through college with graphic arts majors and heard horror stories weekly about how they were sharing systems because the Apples PowerMac G4s kept dying as fast as they were repaired.

Their most powerful system is still equal to our bottom of the line system, but our niche is medium-high end to high end systems.

Saturday, March 13, PM. The reason they cannot be accessed has nothing to do with object ownership - it has to do with the permissions set for the single object in question. Not sure if this helps.

My OS drive had an error on boot up that I couldn't get around Permission Denied - probably due to different boot passwords etc. This allowed me to copy the folder to another directory. On a hunch, I used the same Backup program to restore the copy I just made - this beautifully gives an option to "Remove Security Settings" and to restore to a different directory advanced settings. I restored the backup and can now access the previously "secured" files. Kind of a long way around - but hey, I'm happy I didn't lose all my files.

Have tried everything, yes everything including all the work rounds above to no avail. The UAC in Windows 7 is just as it was in, dare I say it Vista, just there to encourage us to think life has no purpose, no meaning and to stick our fingers in the USB port in the hope of a short circuit and a quick exit from this Microsoft misery.

No wonder people are switching to Mac's, I use to have the patents but now its just a bore. I'm pretty sure I know what the problem is, I'm convinced that the hard drive in my machine, although the computer was custom built for me, has had a pre-used hard drive put in and the directory and files I am seeing are from a previous but not correctly deleted installation i.

Windows 7 is seeing them as shared files. Can't Microsoft come up with a simple solution to what I'm sure is not an isolated problem? Tuesday, February 21, PM. After going in circles for a while, I found that the following worked: 0 Follow the detailed instructions provided in the earlier post by Robinson Zhang to make myself the owner of the folder to be deleted along with all of its subfolders and files. Thursday, February 23, AM.

I was unable to delete some mp3 files that I had previously stored on an external hard drive even though I was logged in as administrator. The thing that worked for me was to create another user account with administrator privileges. After changing to that account I had complete access and was able to delete the files without difficulty. Wednesday, March 7, PM. Saturday, March 31, PM. It appears that these are symbolic links and that WIn7 hasn't got the wherewithal to follow the symlink to the real folder to assess the security settings.

For those of us who are extremely technical, we'd like to be able to remove and re-create a link as needed to test a scenario I've always wanted to try a stripped down, non-backwards compatible, Windows Server.

I'm sure it could be made admin-friendly and allow push updates without spending thousands of dollars on push-update software mechanisms But so far, they've missed the boat. Wednesday, April 18, PM. Hi This small tool does create a new right-click 'menu-item', but how to run this on a remote server -- because my website is hosted on a 3rd-Party server and its owners' after-sales service is extremely poor, please?
