Off the shelf three phase motors for use as a cnc converter will work just fine in some cases, but over time they do not hold up. We have seen many a melted rotor from many different brand names of phase converters in our motor repair shop. The motor is trying to do something it wasn't designed for to begin with.

I have one of their rpc's, a 10hp. Before that some various stages of crude. My opinion is No control circuits, transformers, etc. I'm not affiliated with PP, just happy.

Even with multiple machines, by the time you chase down the capacitance, and everything you add requires more tweeking My phase perfect runs the whole shop. I have a and transformer connected, no problem. At idle, about. ABlake, there is a forum on this site for rpc's, etc. Thanks for the info toolmkr! I'm making preparations to install an FP3NC in my garage. For any advanced item like a NC mill, a phase perfect is best. I like mine too.

I purchased the 10HP unit and couldn't be happier with it. Does everything I need just make sure that all the control wiring is hooked to the non-generated leg. Not to hard to figure it out by looking at the control cabinet.

My shop is just a hobby shop so I couldn't justify the cost of the Phase perfect. Jeff, What model did you get? I will look tomorrow if I get time - Wife is in the hospital with back surgery. Don't worry about it. Take care of your wife, take look if you get the chance. I'm a couple of weeks out from buying.

Hope all goes well. It works just fine. The motor part is from Baldor, and I get the sense that Baldor supplies that same unit to many RPC vendors, who then add the caps and relays and enclosure.

The only drawback is that the Baldor unit is noisy. I think the noise comes from the fan s in the end bells. If I had it to do over, I'd locate the converter as far away from the mill as I could.

I still may move it outside or into another room. The noise is something to consider but there is not much that I can do about it, every thing must be in the garage. Actually, half of the garage, I still need enough room to get my wife's suv inside. Oh- I was scared! I haven't found mine to be too loud. I do recommend getting a magnetic motor controller Starter that will shut of your whole system in the case of a loss of power.

I did put the motor outside so there is no noise in the shop. I probably will need to add a light to the panel since I could leave it running and would not know it for a few days. I added magnetic motor controller with some parts I had at home and work.
